Accommodating Food Allergies
For guests with food allergies, we will do our best to accommodate your needs if you notify us at least three days before your arrival.
Please complete the Pre-Stay Food Allergy Questionnaire provided by us so that we can review your dietary requirements in advance.
We will do our best to avoid specific allergens, such as shrimp in the case of a shrimp allergy. However, we may not be able to accommodate all allergies, as ingredients such as wheat and soy may be present in seasonings and other prepared ingredients.
Please also note that although we take care to avoid specified allergens, we cannot completely eliminate the possibility of trace amounts or cross-contact through cookware, utensils, or shared preparation areas.
Due to the limitations of our kitchen and food preparation environment, we cannot guarantee completely allergen-free meals. Guests with severe or life-threatening allergies are advised to consult their physician before their stay.

Message from the Owner
When the demands of everyday life leave you feeling tired, sometimes a change of scenery is just what you need.
Even simply imagining a trip can lift your spirits and bring a little freshness and joy back into your daily life.
Surrounded by spacious gardens, our inn offers a variety of experiences that make the most of its natural setting. Roast marshmallows around the fire on our terrace, enjoy an authentic sauna surrounded by nature, join an early-morning garden yoga session, or simply take a leisurely stroll.
You can also enjoy oshiruko, a traditional sweet red bean soup, at our irori hearth café, experience a matcha tea ceremony in the lounge, taste our homemade soft-serve ice cream made with local milk, or end your evening with a strawberry parfait.
Throughout our spacious grounds, we have created little experiences for you to discover and enjoy at your own pace.
Our spa treatments are provided by our own trained staff rather than outside therapists, and we especially recommend our complimentary mini treatment.
If you would also like time for an afternoon nap or to lose yourself in a good book, one night may simply not be enough.
Instead of rushing from one sightseeing spot to another, we hope you will allow yourself to slow down. Spend time in our open, peaceful surroundings, reconnect with yourself, and enjoy the encounters and conversations you have with our staff along the way.
It would bring us great joy if Kourakuen could be a place where you can experience this kind of enriching and unhurried journey.
We look forward to welcoming you.
Message from the Okami
Our inn is a traditional Japanese hot spring inn surrounded by a beautiful garden rich in the nature of Hokkaido, just a 15-minute drive from the Otaru Canal.
Located at the entrance to the Asarigawa Onsen area, we are about one hour from New Chitose Airport and 30 minutes from Sapporo via the expressway. Despite this convenient location, our spacious grounds are nestled in a quiet residential neighborhood, offering a peaceful retreat away from the bustle of the city.
Our 26,000-square-meter garden, first created by a previous generation of our family in the early Showa period, is surrounded by trees over a century old. In early May, around 200 cherry trees burst into bloom, making the garden one of Otaru’s well-known cherry blossom spots.
From late May into June, wisteria and azaleas add their colors to the garden. In summer, visitors can enjoy Japanese snowball flowers, hydrangeas, and roses that we carefully tend throughout the year. Late October brings the autumn foliage, which is my favorite season, while in winter, the deep snow transforms the garden into a pure white landscape that brings a wonderful sense of peace.
Our inn has 35 guest rooms, 28 of which feature their own private open-air baths. The floors throughout the inn are covered with tatami, allowing guests to enjoy the warmth and atmosphere of traditional Japanese surroundings.
We hope every guest who stays with us will leave feeling refreshed in both body and spirit. With fresh flowers placed throughout the inn and the soothing waters of our hot springs, we strive to welcome each guest with heartfelt hospitality.
On our website, you can explore videos of the garden throughout the four seasons, as well as our cuisine, guest rooms, hot springs, and other facilities.
We hope you will take a moment to discover what awaits you here—and perhaps one day visit us to enjoy the flowers, trees, and changing beauty of our garden for yourself.
We sincerely hope that our paths will cross someday.
